Oliveras, Mejia to Represent B-Mets at Futures Game

 Mako Oliveras and Jenrry Mejia have been selected to participate in the XM All-Star Futures Game for the World Team, which will be held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on July 12. This will be the 11th Futures Game and can be seen live on ESPN2 at 2 p.m.
Oliveras has been named as one of the six coaches of the World Team for the second time in three years. He was also a coach in the game played at San Francisco’s AT&T Park in 2007.
He is currently in his third season as manager of the Binghamton Mets and has a 163-197 record in that time. From 1995 to 1997, Oliveras served as a bench coach and first base coach for the Chicago Cubs and in 1994 he served as a bench coach with the California Angels.
He has managed minor league teams in the Angels, Indians, Rays and Mets organizations in his 24-year coaching career.
Mejia, a 19-year old right-handed pitcher for the B-Mets, has been named as a pitching representative for the World Team.
He is rated as the No. 7 prospect in the Mets’ organization by Baseball America. Since joining Binghamton on June 3, Mejia is 0-3 with a 3.74 ERA in four starts. He has struck out 24 batters and only allowed nine walks in 21.2 innings of work.
With St. Lucie (High-A) of the Florida State League, Mejia went 4-1 in nine starts with a 1.97 ERA before the promotion to the B-Mets. Last season in 11 starts for Brooklyn (SS-A), he went 3-2 with a 3.49 ERA as the second youngest pitcher in the New York-Penn League.
